  • Justice for Oppressed Bodies

    Utilizing an Anti-Oppressive, Anti-Racist, Intersectional lens, presenter will explore the impacts of race and racism on eating disorders and eating disorder treatment. Themes will include an introduction on Intersectionality by Kimberly Crenshaw, toxic diet culture and racism, the current limitations of the body positivity movement, the dangers of racism and fatphobia, how practitioners can demand justice for all bodies, and resources available. Presenter will share themes from research and their lived experience highlighting Anti-racist, Anti-Oppressive care.

  • Our Big Fat Recoveries: Addressing Weight Stigma at all levels of care

    Friday, April 28 · 10:30am - 12:30pm PDT

    Using lived experience through both personal recovery journey and professional expertise in the eating disorder field, presenters will discuss the impacts of weight stigma in all levels of eating disorder care. Themes will include stigmatizing interventions, inadequate nutritional rehabilitation, fatphobia in group settings, and accessibility and safety in treatment for folks in higher weight bodies. Presenters will share themes from research and their lived experience highlighting life-saving effects of weight inclusive care.

  • Body Dysmorphia & Gender Dysphoria: Clinical Similarities and Differences

    Now more than ever, clients are presenting to care with complex diagnostic profiles. Two diagnoses often conflated are Gender Dysphoria and Body Dysmorphia. Though gender dysphoria and body dysmorphia are two different things, it's very possible to experience both disorders, sometimes at the same time. Oftentimes, there is overlap and even more often, there is confusion when assessing certain symptoms pertaining to these diagnoses.

    Though they are often discussed together, there are significant and important differences between them that need to be addressed. This presentation will assist clinicians with understanding fundamental differences and similarities between the two, allowing participants the opportunity to understand clinical nuances often presenting to care. Gender Dysphoria and Body Dysmorphia will be explored using case vignettes and participants will be given the opportunity to share their case examples.
